Acts 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

FOR THE LOVE OF FELLOWSHIP: RUN TOGETHER

"Forrest Gump" was one of the most depressing movies I think I ever have seen. One might say he had an adventurous life but, for the most part, it was a life he ran on his own.

Our Lord doesn't want us to run on our own. God constantly demonstrated this for the Children of Israel in the Old Testament. And Jesus, the Son of God, teaches this to His disciples by promising that He would always be with us (Matthew 28:20). Even when we are by ourselves, we are never alone because Jesus is here with us. Through His Word He guides, directs, and comforts us. I may always say with great confidence that my running partner in life is my Lord Jesus.

Our Lord doesn't want us to run on our own. In addition to Himself, Jesus gives us others to run beside us. In Acts we see the believers in the early Christian church in Jerusalem continued steadfastly together and devoted themselves to the apostle's teachings. Those teachings are the words of Christ that were given to them to run with in this race of life.

We may often get depressed when we feel like we're running alone. The apostles with great encouragement said plainly, "That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full" (1 John 1:3, 4). Take comfort therefore in the love of your Savior knowing He is running beside you, encouraging, and supporting you daily, as well as giving you like-minded believers to run with you. He doesn't want you to think you run on your own in this world.
