Tropicalfete’s & Barnes & Noble Cultural Reading
Program
“Authors Connecting” is one of the programs Tropicalfete has
planned on its calendar of activities. This is an important event that is part
of Caribbean-American Heritage Month. The program is designed to
emphasize the importance of literacy and how culture can influence education as
well as ones perspective on world events. It is an interactive event
where children celebrate our unique Caribbean culture through reading and
meeting authors. Authors Connecting will be held on Saturday, June 21,
2014 at Barnes & Noble, Park Slope, 267 7th Avenue, Brooklyn, New York,
11215 at 3.00pm and will be hosted by New York City School Teacher Tanisha
Burke.
An accomplished Caribbean author, Tammie Paige will have an
interactive reading session with the attendees. Miss Tropical Paradise, Marsha
Thompson will be speaking about Maya Angelou American revered author &
poet. Maya Angelou is a publisher of autobiographies, books of essays,
& several books of poetry and is also credited with a list of
plays, movies, & television shows. Miss Thompsons will
also educate the audience about Maya Angelou’s Caribbean roots.
This year Tropicalfete has added a new component to the
cultural reading program to educate the audience about Caribbean heroes. The
St. Lucia Consulate will be highlighting the work of St. Lucia’s Nobel
Laureate, Derek Alton Walcott.
Tropicalfete has taken a giant step forward by start to
write a Children Book about their presentation for the West Indian America
Carnival Day Parade with the Presentation of the theme “Masquerade Ball
Caribbean Edition”. The Book will be in the form of dance and mas as well
as it is a series of short stories written and produced by Tropicalfete Inc. in
collaboration with Renee Skeete, Jason Edwards, Daria Primus, Nathifa Cox,
Gillia Satenay, Marcus Luke, Keran Deterville and Alton Aimable.
Tropicalfete will highlight a Caribbean book every day on
social network and their website to encourage the love of reading, to educate
people about the Caribbean region and there will also be Face Mask painting contest where
the winner will win one of our lovely costume for kids
Carnival.
