XR - fighting for our planet's future

Around 200 Extinction Rebellion (XR Ireland) supporters symbolically lay down on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork to depict the looming possibility of species extinction in the absence of meaningful action to curtail global temperature rise.

XR’s main demands include the declaration of a climate and ecological emergency, immediate government action to halt biodiversity loss and targets to reach net zero emissions by 2025. One in every four of the 3,000 species that have undergone a red-list conservation assessment is threatened with extinction in Ireland.

There are peaceful XR civil disobedience events and talks taking place in over 40 countries as part of the Week of International Rebellion.

Maritime Pollution Awareness

'Trash Wall'

Measuring 15 meters long by two meters high, the wall was built with plastic trash removed from only three days of garbage left on the beach of Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro.
The effort aims to draw attention to the fight against maritime pollution caused by plastic in the oceans. According to Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the World Economic Forum, by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the sea.
