Independent Art Book Fair September 21st–23rd in Williamsburg.

Independent Art Book Fair (IABF) is a new platform for an independent group of publishers, bookmakers, and artists. Participants present projects, editions, and publications that reflect and create a dialog among current ideas relevant to contemporary art and artistic practice. With a mission to create an accessible and approachable environment where publishers, artists, and visitors can have valuable experiences by connecting with each other within a larger creative audience, IABF is designed to allow for conversation and embrace a variety of publishing communities.

IABF Creative Suite 2018
IABF Creative Suite is designed with a focus on accessibility to speak with publishers in small discussion forums, workshops, readings, and book signings. IABF is an experience aimed at supporting and nurturing independent artists of all backgrounds. Artists and publishers will host special events to enrich and ingnite converstaional and educational elements through a gamut of special programming.
Crappy Magic publisher David Hellams will show how he turned his Goodwill Outlet addiction into an inventive photo zine, an interactive video art retail concept, and an instructional painting video series.
Fall Line Press founder and editor Bill Boling will discuss the role of very limited edition books and portfolios with signed prints as an important additional element of successful photography book publishing.
La Liga Zine will host readings from En Mi Piel, a zine about colorism and Latinidad that will debut at IABF.
Not a Cult will host artist talks with a surprise artist in their catalog.
n0thing editons will invite illustrator Christina Zimpel
to hold a live 1-2 hour drawing session, where viewers get to see Christina at work producing illustrations and interact with her process.
Juliana Paciulli will host a conversation with Karina Eckmeier and Javier Viramontes about the process and research behind Know Nonsense - 2017, a calendar chronicling the first year of Donald Trump's presidency through documentation of his lies and images of absurd consumer objects. Signing to follow the discussion.
Jimmy Riordan recently received a grant to fund a series of collaborative art books with Pittsburgh-based artists. Riordan will present one of the final books and host a conversation on independent publishing.
Scrollino founders Ludmila & Sylvain Favardin are artists, authors, and founders of Edition Lidu. They will talk about the creative process and experiments that led to the invention of Scrollino® - the revolutionary rewinding book, as well as their own printing technique Scrollinography. Ludmila & Sylvain will also present the first Scrollino publications and introduce the creative possibilities of this new paper media that brings to life uninterrupted several feet-long images and stories.
Shortt Editions will present a reading of sign-based books about the art world.
Marcela Szwarc is hosting "Corrosive Femininities," which explores the radical act of being feminine under capitalism and the behaviors that either corrode feminine existence or add to the feminine identity through a corrosion of the physical self. The literary workshop will occur in two parts: an initial discussion portion and a journaling/poetry portion. Participants will submit what they write at the end to create a collaborative riso-printed zine. The workshop is inclusive to a variety of experiences, including women's, men's, trans-identifying, and LGBTQ people. Everyone is welcome. Paper and writing tools will be provided.
Marcela Szwarc will read a segment from killing the mountain god, a self-published art book. The book is about living in Iceland while experiencing heartbreak and physical health issues. Szwarc will also read a segment from PRAYERS OF SURRENDER, a zine about crossing the North Atlantic via ferry. It's an appeal to memory, love, nature, and self through the structure of prayers.
Undertone Collective will host "Price of Admission: Barriers for WoC/Femmes of Color Creatives,” a conversation with creative women of color/femmes of color on the cost of creativity. Topics covered will include a range from emotional labor, financial status, classism, elitism, romanticism of brokenness, structural barriers, and more.

Disco Tehran hosts an evening of Middle Eastern disco with traditional Persian food
Disco Tehran is an underground party and performance project in the Lower East Side, NYC. It is a funky warm discothéque with live shows by local and international bands. Disco Tehran explores groovy household throwbacks to rare music from the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. This dreamboat connects NYC to the era of 1970s cosmopolitan venues in Tehran.

Just like a family reunion, pot luck style, special guest artists will be cooking up a feast for fellow exhibitors and VIP. At the helm, Adam Mignanelli of Sizzle Vision, Eli & Kisa of Quiet Time Tapes, and Karen Schaupeter of Ed. Varie are rounding up the indegredients for a special evening on the East River Waterfront.
