Want to learn how to help cultivate kids' awareness of our finite resources, understand concepts of nutrition and health, and connect them to the natural world? A great way to do this is through the creation of school gardens. Come meet Arden Bucklin-Sporer, co-author of How to Grow a School Garden, who will share ideas for building planting beds, kid-friendly recipes, and advice on everything from raising funds to garden designs, materials lists, and lesson plans that connect garden activities to curriculums for grades K-8.

BOB HICOK will read from
Words for Empty and Words for Full
Tuesday, September 21 at 7 PM
Meet award-winning poet Bob Hicok, who will read from his new collection, Words for Empty and Words for Full. He is the author of several poetry collections, including This Clumsy Living, which won the distinguished Bobbitt Prize from the Library of Congress in 2007. His first book, The Legend of Light, won the Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry and was named an ALA Booklist Notable Book of the Year in 1997.
Hicok once worked in automotive die casting design, and owned his own business. His poems offer varied portraits of the lives of working people, violence, unexpected beauty, and keen observations on human nature.

Parents: Here's an easy way you can help raise money for your school while you shop! Come to our store between October 15th and 18th, mention your school's name, and your school will receive 15% of your net purchase in cash, or 25% of your net purchase in store credit. All local public and private schools are eligible (schools must pre-register with the store before the event).
