DEPOT SOUND NOTICES

  • King Snake recorded an album of 14 songs in the studio - initially intended as a live demo disc the band liked the recordings so much they decided to push it through as a fully packaged product. Hope things went well at the Bay of Island's Blues and Jazz festival gentlemen. Thanks to Amstore for the excellent turnaround on the project. 2 weeks from initial recording to finished printed CD… nice job!
  • Unknown Peace's (Auckland 7 piece reggae band) album is now complete and a selection of songs are now available to hear on Myspace and Soundcloud.
  • John Mackay's epic indo-jazz-orchestral-epic  album Danavira - Giver of Light is now complete and off to the US to get printed!
  • We did a quick export job for Tim Fowler's now defunct band's album. If you're a fan of hard edged urban rock check it out through Powertool Records.
  • Finally, check out Sinaster's official release of Life's too Short as well as examples from above that we've recently uploaded to: Depot Sound Myspace - www.myspace.com/depotsoundrecording Depot Sound Soundcloud - http://snd.sc/NGAK9F

ARTIST OF THE MONTH: Cherrie James
Cherrie James is a qualified teacher and graduate of Hungry Creek Art & Craft School.
Working from Opahi Bay, Mahurangi Cherrie creates mixed media work which “does not take itself too seriously” with her works and their title’s alluding to classic one-liners or eternal human struggles and constraints faced by us all.
Clearly determined to make her work accessible to most people, Cherrie gives the viewer insights into the thoughts behind her ceramic and mixed media pieces through cleverly placed clues and the materials used. Stating that her work is “a fun look at the macabre”, each work brings a smile to the face and encourages the viewer to take a closer look.
Cherrie’s work varies from wall and coffee table pieces to jewellery and is inspired by life’s challenges, her rural upbringing and celebrating her love of recycled materials. Cherrie’s work has delighted both young and old having been exhibited in Sculpture on the Shore, been a finalist in the Wallace Art Awards and winner of the Rodney Art Awards.
Cherrie’s work is available here at Small Dog and she also accepts commissions.
SEPTEMBER ARTSLAB WORKSHOPS
Kerr St Artspace, Foot of Mt Victoria, Devonport
Artists across all disciplines have frequently inquired where they might find professional work and practice development workshops designed from a creative and not just business perspective.  The Depot has discovered that artists want to develop skills in subjects like networking through social media, book keeping tax and GST, goal setting and presentation, but they want to do this in an environment that respects and approaches these subjects from a creative perspective.  The Depot has developed a series of workshops through its ArtsLab programme at Kerr Street Artspace, Devonport, that are designed for creative people seeking to develop their arts practice and generate income.  The scheduled workshops, which you are invited to attend, are:

“I am excited discovering new possibilities during the processes, changing the way the reinvented image is experienced”.

Nina’s penchant is for presenting familiar floral images in unfamiliar ways, commenting on the crossover between the real and generated, as the image supersedes its original reading. Using various repetitive linking and rotating techniques, the often unexpected effects and illusions created during the construction process principally informs the resulting image.

“Devonport a century ago looked very different to how it looks now and further change is inevitable”.
