MALTA LEAVES AUSTRALIA WITH NO EXCUSES
ISLAND NATION SHOWS THERE'S NO NEED FOR A PLEBISCITE

Equality advocates have welcomed marriage equality in Malta saying it shows the reform can be achieved without the expense and division of a plebiscite.

Just.equal spokesperson and long-time marriage equality advocate, Rodney Croome, said,

"If marriage equality can occur in Catholic Malta Australia has no excuses."

"The lesson for Australia from Malta, and from Germany a few days ago, is that marriage equality can be achieved through parliament without the need for a costly and divisive plebiscite."

Malta has become the 15th nation in the EU and the 25th in the world to allow same-sex couples to marry.

During debate on the marriage equality bill the Maltese government insisted that the move was necessary in order to respect Malta's anti-discrimination laws.
