John 14:2-3 "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."

GOING TO THE FATHER'S HOUSE

All of us long to be "in the Father's house." When we die, we want to rise again from the dead and live with God in heaven for all eternity. We confess this in the Nicene Creed when when we say, "I look for the resurrection of the dead, And the life of the world to come." Right now, we are pilgrims, just passing through here for 70 or 80 years, a mere drop in the bucket of time, on our way to the Father's house, that new place of peace and joy.

But there is only one way to the Father's house, and that is through Jesus Christ, the Father's only Son. When Christ He talked to His disciples about this He said, "I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me." Who is working things out so that we can go to the Father's house? Who is taking care of our entrance into that holy mansion? Isn't it Jesus who is doing all this?

Jesus must take care of this for you, because you can't just walk into the Father's house on your own -- you who are covered from head to toe in the filthiness of your sins; you who have disobeyed and dishonored the Holy One. On our own merits, every one of us would be cast out before we ever got near the door, but because of Jesus' suffering, death, and resurrection, our sins are forgiven and salvation does indeed stand before us.
