Hello Firstname
All Hail The New Messiah(s)!
Following last Wednesday's AGM I can now confirm that white smoke has been seen coming from the chimney of 12 West Mall and a new Society Chairman and Deputy Chairman have been chosen; Neil McCoubrey is now the new Chairman and his trusty sidekick is Millie Spaven - well done and good luck to you both.
The change at the head of the Society has been bought forward by a year owing to the ill health of Barry Mead; however I can report that Barry is responding well to treatment and we can expect to see him making the odd visit to club in the near future.

Wednesday 10 July
Next Wednesday we have a visit from Mark Mumford FRPS who will be giving a talk on his A & F Panels and some of his new work. Mark specialises in the surreal, so expect some fantastic (as in fantasy!) images.
To get a flavour of Mark's work, you can visit his web site by following this link. I've reproduced a couple of his images below.

Pilgrimage of the sacrificial Lamb and the
loss of faith
  Armageddon the end

Digital Imaging Group
The next meeting of the DI Group will take place at 7.30pm next Monday, 8 July, at the clubrooms. Please bring along your images, either to show off or to get advice on; don't forget, it's your images that make the evening, if there are no images to look at there is nothing to talk about! If you are bringing projected images, please make sure that they are in jpeg format and saved to a memory stick.
All are welcome and as usual there's Ashwin's chocolate biscuits to look forward to!.

Macmillan Cancer Appeal Calendar 2014
As mentioned in a previous issue of the Newsletter, BPS member Shaun Boycott-Taylor has had one of his images selected for the Macmillan Cancer Appeal 2014 calendar. Shaun has sent me the following in an attempt to tempt people to buy copies of the calendar:
"One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.
We provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. We are Macmillan Cancer Support.
We have recently launched our 2014 Macmillan “Bristol” Calendar featuring images from around the city that have been kindly donated by the authors. One of whom is a member of your photographic society.
To obtain your copy please see Shaun Boycott-Taylor at your Society meetings or e-mail him at shaun.bt55@yahoo.co.uk stating how many 2014 Macmillan “Bristol” calendars you require.
The price of the Calendars is £5 with ALL the proceeds going to help fund the local support provided by Macmillan Cancer Support.
It is only with your help that we can raise the £300,000 that is required to fund the Macmillan professionals and services that are needed in our local area.
Thank you for supporting us."

If you click here you will be able to see the calendar in all its glory; Shaun's masterpiece is featured in November (for those of you old enough to remember, that makes him sound like Playboy of the month!) .

Subscription Renewals
For some of the longer serving members of the Society who joined before 23 May 1990 the annual subscription used to fall due on 1 June or at the AGM if this was later, you are reminded that the renewal date for all those members has changed and is now 1 August (please see page 3 in your BPS Handbook).

Exhibitions to Visit
Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize
An exhibition at M-Shed in the city centre featuring the very best contemporary portrait photographs from around the world, capturing famous faces and intimate moments. This is your only chance to see it outside London!

If you have something photographic that you want to sell, why not let me have details and I can circulate them to a captive audience of photographers through the Newsletter - send to the usual address.
