News Flash

Northern Sydney Health (NSH) is responsible for providing health care services, including your local hospitals on the Northern Beaches. These services have been under review and NSH has made it clear it favours effectively closing Manly and Mona Vale Hospitals.

NSH has started sending all Northern Beaches households a Community Newsletter. It asks you to have your say about 3 options for further hospital services in the Northern Beaches region.

What should you do?

1 Read the NSH Community Newsletter because the outcome of the review will affect the lives of you and your family.

2 Come to our rally and hear speakers give a balanced and informed view of other key health issues the Community Newsletter doesn't mention.

3 Fill in the NSH feedback form and add comments.

VOTE OPTION B

B Hospital Services for the Northern Beaches would
be provided from the Mona Vale Hospital Site.

4 Ring GHD on 1800 810 680 to get additional copies of the Feedback document mailed to you so that each member of your family can have a say.

Remember:

How your family responds will decide whether Mona Vale Hospital has a future as our local hospital.

SAVE MONA VALE HOSPITAL

Please take 2 minutes to read this because...

* It is about grandparents, parents, children, and our children's children.
* It is about US and the quality of our lives.

· Northern Sydney Health (NSH) is responsible for providing
health care service including Mona Vale Hospital.

· NSH has been reviewing health services (including hospitals)
on the Northern Beaches and in February will
send all households a newsletter.

· The Newsletter asks you to vote on the future hospital
services on the Northern Beaches. It is a very confusing document.
How you respond will decide
whether Mona Vale hospital has a future as OUR hospital.

· If you have not received a newsletter you can get a copy by;
- phoning GHD on 1800 810 680, or
- going to your local library, or
- visiting www.nsh.nsw.gov.au

VOTE OPTION B

The Save the Mona Vale Hospital Group recommends that on the

of their newsletter) that you choose the following option:

B Hospital Services for the Northern Beaches would
be provided from the Mona Vale Hospital site.

Your vote counts. Ensure your voice is heard.

WHY MONA VALE HOSPITAL (MVH) MUST
BE SAVED AND UPGRADED

· MVH is an integral part of our community's health network,
for the sake of current and future generations, it must
continue this vital role with upgraded facilities.

· MVH is at the geographic centre of the Northern Beaches
giving residents quick and easy access by car or public transport.

· MVH is only 35 years old. It was designed with plenty
of room to expand and has a heliport.

· With an aging population and the provision of aged care facilities
within the area, there is an increasing demand for
community-based health services, including emergency
and acute care, rehabilitation, and palliative care.

· MVH can be redefined and readily financed as a centre of
medical excellence within a total community health care program.

WHY WE MUST REJECT THE PROPOSAL
FOR A HOSPITAL AT A NEW LOCATION

· It is an incredible waste to destroy a major public
investment in a modern, well-planned hospital when there is a
strong community need for it, and strong community support for it.

· A new hospital out of the area would drastically
increase travel times for emergency cases and for patients and their families.

· The NSW public hospital system is stretched to its
limits and chronically under funded. The Area Health
administrators estimate the cost of a new hospital to
be more than $160 million. Please bear in mind that:-

a) Almost without exception, the actual cost of major structures
is at least twice the original estimates.
Where will the State Government obtain such a sum?
b) The state Government has a sorry history of downgrading and
closing services on the Northern Beaches. There's no guarantee that a new
hospital on a new site would ever be built on the Northern Beaches.
c) At a total cost of around $130 million, the upgrading of MVH
would be a far more cost-effective proposition.

VOTE FOR BETTER HEALTH CARE
VOTE FOR OPTION B

THE RETENTION AND UPGRADING OF MONA VALE HOSPITAL
