Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 27 July

Next Wednesday is one of the highlights of the BPS calendar - the Annual Outing!

After many years of drought in this department, with extensive research and consultation between heads of departments, it has been decided to visit Bristol Harbourside.
Congregating between 7:00 and 7:30pm on Wednesday in the Great Western Car Park there is the option of going west or east (or both) to spend an evening of photographic bliss, it won’t rain as we have put our order in! The venue is fully air conditioned and hostels are aplenty but you will find difficulty in rivalling Vicky’s splendid weekly offerings. The 2m rule will be optional though the sharing of memory cards will be frowned upon. All are welcome, (even Ramesh) and it will be the first such gathering for 3 years - so lets give those tripods an airing.

PAGB Interclub PDI Competition
The following report is from Mike Martin, to whom we owe our thanks for all his hard work in putting together our entry.

Warwick – Inter Club PDI competition
A great day was held at Warwick with some excellent images all round – sadly the results weren’t quite as positive as last year L
Round 1 – Not bad, we finished on 99 in joint 11th just 6 points off the top club, though a bit crowded at the top due to the generally high marking.  There were a couple of disappointing scores.
Round 2 – Trying to second guess the preferences of judges based upon round 1 is always difficult.  We dropped a couple of our initial shortlist and substituted two new images into our eight... one was well received and one less so.  Sadly, following the success of “Fighter” in Round 1, we entered some of our strongest portraits, all multi awarded images in round 2; they didn’t seem to be favoured seeing round 2 score 97, dropping us to 15th and 16th overall – missing out on the cut for the final.
Plate – another 8 images; we got off to a flying start with two 15s and a 14 before crashing with another 11 and a shocking undeserved 9.  The round finished with another 14 and two 12s giving us 102 and 8th place... joint 1st scored 108.
Thank you to everyone who supported us on the day or in making images available – we couldn’t do it without you – and, on a different day with different judges the outcome could have been so different.  Mating flies and sport seemed to do particularly well as did creative images (just not some of ours) – wonder what themes / topics will do well next time?
We’ll just have to do better next year, winning DPIC to earn our place.
So, keep taking images.
Mike

PSA Inter-Club Print Competitions
Those of you with good memories will recall that we did rather well in the PSA competitions.  The awarded images were re-judged to determine the individual awards in the End of Year competitions – and again we did rather well; a small consolation following the disappointment of Warwick.
