Epiphany Day
Matthew 2:11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him.
KING OF KINGS
The Wise Men put their faith in what God revealed to them. It made them willing to go to great lengths to simply see the new King and spend a few moments in His presence. But when they found the babe at the carpenter's home in Bethlehem, what did they see? Wasn't it just a rather ordinary-looking Jewish infant of about 18 months, in a setting far too poor for a king? Their reaction says they saw far more.
Faith sees far more than ordinary eyesight takes in. Because of the Word of God, they saw the long-promised King, the Messiah of God, the One who had come to bless the whole world. And because this was God's plan in the offing, these men of faith saw it as good as done -- and paid Him homage.
We know He did what He came to do. We have the record of our God in His Word. And through that Word he has made us men and women and children of faith, faith in the promised Savior -- our Messiah-King. Our King has defeated our worst enemies -- sin and death and hell itself. And He has returned from death to rule our hearts and lives in all wisdom and grace.
There is no indication in Scripture that the Wise Men were kings at the time when they knelt before the Babe of Bethlehem. But they are kings now -- and so are we. So this Epiphany we once again join the Magi and offer all praise and honor -- to him "who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be kings and priests to serve his God and Father -- to him be glory and power for ever and ever! (Revelation 1:5-6).
