John 2:11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
MIRACLES WITNESS THE TRUTH THAT JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD!
This was what Jesus wanted, after all--it was His desire that His disciples believe in Him, trust Him, have faith in Him.
But no miracle can do that! Witnessing water being turned into wine cannot save a person; seeing a person come back to life cannot save a person (See Luke 16:19 ff., especially v. 31). If that were possible, certainly everyone at Jesus' time would have become a believer--even the many hardened Pharisees!
Jesus did not do miracles to bring people to faith, but certainly the miracles did back up the claims Jesus made of being the Son of God. As Nathanael expressed it, when Jesus spoke of how He had seen Nathanael when the man was miles away and hidden from view, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" (John 1:49-51).
It was all because of His merciful love. As Jesus traversed His people's country for those three years, He saw the problems, the sickness, the demon-possession, and in His love He couldn't help Himself. He was compelled to help, to alleviate His people's pain.
I thank the Lord for bringing me to faith in my Savior through the Gospel, for it is there that I see His great love for me and for all others. Join with me in telling all we can about Him, who has revealed to us how He lived and died and rose again so that heaven might be ours!
