Deuteronomy 18:17a, 18-19 And the Lord said to me: "What they have spoken is good. I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him."
THE GREAT PROPHET
Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Moses--these are only a few of the Old Testament prophets that we might call "great." Each of these men faced difficult situations. Each of these men made mistakes. Each of these men were sinners.
God promised through Moses that He would raise up for His people a great prophet. God promised to put His Words in his mouth (of course that was always the case with faithful prophets, they spoke words given them by God). God promised that this great prophet would come from among the Israelites and that He would speak all the words given Him. Finally, God warned that those who did not listen to His words (which were God's) it would be required of them.
Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, is the great Prophet God foretold through Moses. Now that isn't my opinion, but a matter confirmed by God's Word. In the third chapter of the book of Acts, it is revealed that Jesus is the great Prophet (Acts 3:22, 24-26):
"For Moses truly said to the fathers, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, "And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed." To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities.'"
There is no need to look for another Prophet. Moreover, the Words of Christ recorded in Scripture stand and will stand as the standard for judgment (cf. John 12:48).
Jesus is the great Prophet! We can rely upon all of His promises, for His are the promises of God!
The search is over!
