VIDEO: ISRAELI MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT "EXPELLED" AT IPU IN RUSSIA |
To loud applause from fellow Parliamentarians representing various countries, an Israeli Member of Parliament (MP), Nachman Shai, was forced to walk out in embarrassment from the recent Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) hosted in Russia. The walk out followed a Kuwaiti lawmaker, Marzouq Al-Ghanim, accusing the Israeli MP of representing state sponsored terrorism. Al-Ghanim, who is the speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, was praised on social media and trended for several hours on Twitter. Fellow South African Member of Parliament, Mandla Mandela, also released a statement in support of the Kuwaiti MP (click here). The IPU, established in 1889, consists of 173 Parliaments from across the world. The recent session in St Petersberg was addressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and had over 100 Parliamentary speakers, 70 deputy speakers and 2300 guests, including 840 members of parliament from more than 150 countries. Incidentally, the Israeli MP in question, Nachman Shai, was the head of an Israeli delegation that was recently rejected an audience and snubbed by the Parliament of South Africa. ARAB LEAGUE PRAISES BDS BOYCOTT OF ISRAEL MOVEMENT

The Arab League, representing over 20 Arab countries, has praised the BDS movement and called on its members to reactivate the boycott of Israel. During the 1980s the ANC and the South African liberation struggle received training, funds and support from various Arab countries including from the Palestinians, Algerians and several others. PALESTINE REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR DOWNGRADING OF SOUTH AFRICAN EMBASSY IN ISRAEL

Palestinian Ambassador to South Africa, His Excellency Hashem Dajani (pictured above with South African President Jacob Zuma), in an article celebrating the centernary of South African anti-apartheid icon, Oliver Reginald Tambo, has reaffirmed his government's support for the downgrading of the SA Embassy in Israel.
In an article, published by the DailyMaverick, the Palestinian envoy to South Africa states: "Allow me also to seize this opportunity to reiterate the welcoming of the recommendation of the National Policy Conference of the African National Congress on downgrading South Africa’s representation to Israel, as we look forward to your support in recommending its adoption by the general conference of the ANC in December 2017. We believe such a step would place pressure on Israel to put an end to its illegal violations of Palestinian human rights, including settlement expansion, and to provide a positive atmosphere for launching a political process that will lead to the end of the Israeli occupation and the establishment of the independent state of Palestine." SPEAKER OF THE PALESTINE NATIONAL COUNCIL URGES PAN AFRICAN PARLIAMENT TO SUPPORT BDS BOYCOTT OF ISRAEL

The Speaker of the Palestine National Council (PNC), Saleem Zanoun (pictured above with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Meshal) has called on the Pan African Parliament (PAP) to support the BDS movement, end cultural and economic relations with Israel, boycott products made in illegal Israeli settlements, and prevent Israeli settlers living on stolen Palestinian land from entering African countries.
The PNC is the legislative council of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The PLO is recognized worldwide as the sole legitimate representative of the entire Palestinian people in its homeland and in exile. PAP, also known as the African Parliament, is the legislative body of the African Union (AU). Palestine has observer status at the AU and at the Pan African Parliament.
