Mark 1:25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!"

SILENCE!?

Silence! Why did Jesus silence the unclean spirit? Was it that He didn't want good press from an evil source? In fact, much of what the unclean spirit said was true, whether the demon believed it to be true or not. Jesus had come to destroy the works of the devil. He was (and is) the Holy One of God.

Why then did Jesus muzzle the demon? Well, it wasn't because He didn't want people to know that He was (and is), the One long promised to crush the head of the serpent Satan (cf. Genesis 3:15). The Lord Jesus does want people to discover that He is the Christ, the Son of God, and the Savior of humankind. He does want people to come to believe that He is their Savior from sin and death. However, He would have us discover this through His Word and by the witness of His powerful works.

Silence? Please understand that Jesus told the unclean spirit to be silent, not you. He wants you to open your mouth and speak of Him. He wants to use your testimony to lead people to Him. He wants people to see His miracles and conclude that His Word has authority, and be then led to seek that Word.

May God also use us to spread His fame throughout the world today by speaking of what wonderful things He has done for us.

We have heard His Word. We, who were formerly dead in sins, have been made alive together with Christ.

He has authorized us to speak His Word. He has given us His precious and powerful Word. Let's use it!
