Our speaker next week is Janet Miles ARPS CPAGB BPE2* AFIAP, who will be presenting her talk, intriguingly entitled Fun at Home. She says the following about her talk:
I live in Somerset and have been passionate about photography for more than 30 years. I find in recent years I am leaning more towards creative photography and photographic art but will have a go at most things! Having retired from teaching I now have more time to devote to photography, and enjoy speaking and judging for camera clubs. I also offer tuition in taking and processing images.
|
|
I have recently acquired my ARPS for a creative woodlands visual art panel, and also have CPAGB, BPE2 and AFIAP.
The talk that I will do for you is based on a long-term project of experimenting with friends, to undertake the sort of photography you can do cheaply at home to create eye catching images.
Below are some images from the talk - to see more, why not visit her website by following this LINK?

Distinctions Advisory Group - NEXT MONDAY |
Monday 21 July - 7.30pm at the Clubrooms.
Andrew Marker and Pete McCloskey will be present to offer advice and review possible submissions for RPS and PAGB panels. ALL members who are either already on the path to distinctions or just thinking about having a go are welcome, so come along with your images (prints or DPIs) to receive advice.
For the Licentiate the RPS only accept DPI submissions and no longer prints. Our advice was largely based on print submissions, but with the RPS changed rules we will offer advice on DPIs.
It is recommended that members read up on Distinctions on the RPS and PAGB websites as they contain much useful information:

On Wednesday 30 July, after the AGM and awards presentation, we will be holding a bit of a shindig to celebrate 10 years since we moved into Unit 13.
This will take the form of a "bring a bottle/something to eat" event, when you should bring some party fodder so that we can enjoy a bit of a festive atmosphere and celebrate 10 wonderful years. You only need to bring enough for one person as it will all be put onto one big feast table for all to graze. More details later.

Upcoming Studio Sessions:
Monday 21 July - MODEL SHOOT. Alice. Two themes – big floaty dress and gel lighting (Google “Jake Hicks Gels” for inspiration)
- 11am – 1pm – open to all: cost £10
- 1:15pm – 4:15pm – limited numbers: cost £20 – contact Mike to book a place (one place remaining)
Monday 28 July – David Alderson will be leading the session: he is going to focus on photographing gadgets, tools, macro – bring anything you’d like to photograph, along with torches, small lights and any interesting backdrops. David will also be bringing his droplet equipment.
WANTED
After last Wednesday’s ‘pearls of wisdom’ from Barry, Mike is brewing a few more ideas for photoshoots. If anyone has any imitation/simulated pearl jewellery seeking a new home, Mike would be very pleased to add them to his pool of accessories for use in club photoshoots. Just bring along to the Studio group or regular club meeting.

LAST CALL - Still a few spaces left
This is a large scale (200 people) re-enactment of the English Civil War and promises to be a fabulous chance to capture some great photography. While we have no exclusive access, it is a chance to car share and enjoy a great day out.
If you are interested in being part of a group, probably going on the Sunday, then contact me by email mike.hall95@btinternet.com or by phone 07765 819640.
I am also exploring a visit to the Helicopter Museum at Weston-Super-Mare to do a model shoot using their collection of helicopters from all genres. For further info and to express interest contact me as above.

Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

The following from Jenny Wood:
I have an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 for sale, which prints up to A2 size, for a nominal cost of £80. It is in very good condition with 5 out of 9 ink tanks more than half full (I’m a positive kind of person!}. See photo of levels below. The Epson Photo Black, Cyan and Vivid Magenta will need refills before it will work. It did have the usual switching blacks problem, which is why I stopped using it, but if you only print matte or have the skills to replace the diverter valve, it should be fine.
|
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include them in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).
