Newsletter for Offshore Residents of Pittwater, Australia  Volume 5, Issue 39; April 2003

Editorial:

The NSW state election has been decided and we congratulate John Brogden on his re-election as Member for Pittwater. We wish him well for the next four years. It is important that we, as a marginalised community, maintain strong connections with our elected representatives at all levels of government. Our water supply, our roads, our children's education and our security depend on the strength of our relationships with our political leaders.

John Brogden can be contacted using email by clicking here

    Update from SIRA

    Church Point Precinct

The design team continues to work with Mark Eriksson from Council to develop plans to draft stage for the CP Precinct. The team includes Ian Souter and Larry Eastwood representing the Offshore community. The 'Pasadena' hearing at the Land and Environment Court will be initially on the legal argument of 'existing use', and is meant , we understand, to happen in May. Will report further. Church Point Store/PO, the DA having been rejected by Council, will be incorporated into the plans in a way that will be acceptable to the community. Again, we will await the results of the design team's planning.

    Roads and Drainage

Sharon Kinnison, Jennifer Knox and Greg Roberts recently met with Paul Davies from Council, following an original meeting with James Payne and Col Mathison to do with developing a long term plan to maintain and upgrade the roads and drainage on SI. We submitted a 'Maintenance Plan' of moderate cost (keeping drains and gutters clear), which will need some participation by residents. Paul is looking at this and we will be meeting again shortly. We also discussed the steps to develop a 5 year upgrading plan. This will take some months to bring to a draft document stage, ready to put before the community. We will keep you posted.

    Talks well worth attending.
Swami Dayananda Saraswati, a traditional teacher of Vedanta, is coming to Australia in April this year and is well worth listening to - he is an exceptional speaker with a great depth of knowledge accompanied by an exceptional sense of humour. It is a rare treat to hear someone like this speaking. We have arranged a special talk/enquiry at Chatswood on Monday 21st April with questions and answers following. It will suit those who know nothing about the subject as well as those who have been studying for some time. This is not about religion but knowledge - anyone interested in expanding their minds will find it very illuminating as well as entertaining

    Share a berth

Paolo Writes: "We have a berth at a local marina, used so far only on weekends, to keep our runabout.

We have now sold the runabout but would like to keep the berth, using only the car parking facility at weekends.
We wonder whether you, dear reader, would like to go halves with us. You would use the full time berth, we would use it when we needed the parking spot."
