Joshua 24:15 As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!
ON JESUS' TEAM
Talk about pressure. I'm glad it's not me on the pitcher's mound. All eyes are on my son as he sets himself for the next pitch. With two outs and runners on second and third, his team holds to a two run lead in what hopefully will be the last inning. Standing tall at 4'10", he winds and delivers the pitch. The batter swings. A grounder to second. A close play at first. "Out!" barks the umpire. Game over!
We Christians find ourselves in pressure situations. The world is watching. What will we do when the dirty joke is told in the break room? Where will we be when the church bell rings on Sunday morning? How will we respond when someone claims he's sure of heaven because his good deeds out number his bad? Are we ready to stand with Joshua and say, "As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!"
When our Savior's honor is on the line, we don't always come through in the clutch. Satan, world and flesh score runs on our faith all too easily. Thank God we can already claim victory over such deadly opponents. Sin, death and hell have been set down in order by our Heavenly MVP, Jesus Christ. In Him and His Cross it's "game over!" We win! Forever!
In heartfelt thanks let's proudly put our jersey on everyday, the one that says: "I'm on Jesus' team!" In the strength of His grace, let's join veteran Joshua and say, "Yes! As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!"
