Psalm 25:2-3 Let me not be ashamed; Let not my enemies triumph over me. Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION

What should we ask when we come to God? We have many needs, but on this occasion we begin like David by asking for His protection.

Have you ever been ashamed of yourself? I know that I have often been ashamed of myself because of the thoughtless and hurtful words I have spoken. As much as I wish it were possible, once words are spoken they can't be taken back.

However, when David prays that God not let him be ashamed, he's not talking about being embarrassed because of his own thoughtless words. He's asking for something far more important -- that God protect him from being ashamed of the LORD and His Word. He's asking that God not allow the mockery of others to shake His faith in the LORD and ultimately lead Him to be ashamed of His Savior-God. This is a prayer that we today should also earnestly pray.

Are we in danger of being ashamed? While our confidence is in Christ and what He has done, the Scriptures assure us: "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame" (Romans 10:11).

When the Last Day dawns and we cling to Jesus Christ by faith, then we will by the grace of God be lifted up. If our confidence is in ourselves or based on human logic, then we may well be ashamed.

Today, as we go to school or job, let's ask that God protect us and all other Christ-believers from being ashamed of Christ and His Word. We may also pray that those who trouble us because of our confession of faith be ashamed of their deceitful dealings. Protect me, Lord from being ashamed of You and Your Word -- today and every day!
