It's January and it's time to plan something warm and cozy to knit for yourself.  If you need some motivation, inspiration, or maybe just a little help, join us for the
Two Harbors Poncho Lunchtime knit-a-long!
This poncho is simple to knit and uses 5 skeins of Blue Sky Alpacas Extra on size 10 needles.  This luscious yarn is 55% baby alpaca and 45% fine merino for a really lovely springy yarn that is wonderful to knit with.  It comes in 17 gorgeous colors and we will be placing a special order for Extra on January 22nd, so come in before then to pick out which colors you want for your poncho.

The knit-a-long will be every Thursday in February from 12-1:30 and is free and open to all levels of knitters.

New In The Shop
We've added three new yarns this month.  The first in Linaza.  Linaza is a fingering weight blend of 50% alpaca, 25% linen and 25% tencel.  The blend of fibers gives a lovely heathered look to the 8 solid colors.  It has 440 yards per 100g skein and we picture it being used for shawls, but it would also make a lovely summer shirt or lightweight sweater.

The next yarn is Nettle Grove.  It is a Summery blend of 45% cotton, 28% linen, 12% nettle and 15% silk.  It is beautiful.  Soft and heathery with a subtle sheen.  Nettle Grove is a light sport weight with 218 yards per 50g ball and we have 4 beautiful colors.  Nettle grove would be great for shawls, shirts, lightweight sweaters, skirts, or baby and kid items.
The third yarn is Arequipa Fur.  Arequipa Fur is a fun fur yarn made from natural fibers!  It's a blend of 59% baby alpaca and 41% fine merino and there are 65 yards per 50g skein.  Arequipa is great combined with other yarns, as a border or accent yarn or by itself as in the Zsa Zsa Cowl.  It would also make some fabulous stuffed animals!

Mark your calendars for April 9 & 10, it's time for some Indigo dyeing!  The indigo plant has been used to create deep, beautiful blues for thousands of years.  We are offering two resist workshops, Batik and Shibori, the day before, and borth include the dye workshop in their price with an additional savings if you sign up for both resist workshops.  For those who only want to dye, you can sign up for the Indigo Workshop on its own.  You can reserve your spot and pay for the classes here.
Shibori Wrap Saturday, April 9th, 10am-12pm $45
Batik Saturday, April 9th, 1-4pm $55
Indigo Dyeing Sunday, April 10th 1-5pm $35
Sign up for both Shibori Wrap and Batik for only $85!

Yarn of the Month
We've decided to make Aquarella by Malabrigo the yarn of the month for January too!  Aquarella is a gorgeous single ply thick and thin 100% merino yarn.  It comes with 65 yards to 100g skein and as you would expect from Malabrigo the colors are simply mouth-watering.  You can use one skein to knit up the Cashmere Neckwarmer (shown below) or try some of these other patterns for a quick and cozy knit:  Three hour cowl, Two hour hat,  Mile a Minute Scarf, Rustic Baby Hat, Urchin (hat), Ovate (shawl), or Chunky Slouch Cap.

Knitting with Thrums $20

Thrumming is a Canadian knitting tradition where scraps of fleece were added to a fabric to create additional warmth in a finished piece. In class we will work from a basic mitten pattern, adding thrums as we go to make a super warm fleece-lined mitten. You will learn different techniques for creating the thrums as well as ways to incorporate them into other projects.

A knowledge of basic crochet stitches is required. *Materials needed: Super bulky and fingering weight single ply yarn and a size G crochet hook. 1 class, $15
