Digital Imaging Group
Monday 13 April is the monthly meeting of the Digital Imaging Group. As usual, all members are welcome, especially if they bring along work to show fellow members, either prints or projected images (jpeg on USB memory sticks only please).

Wednesday Meetings & Parking
BPS Council members are concerned that the introduction of the RPZ is having an adverse effect on attendance at Wednesday meetings.  We appreciate that the parking is one of the reasons we are moving, but the introduction of the RPZ does seem to have eased the parking situation rather than making it more difficult and up to 7.00 pm (at least) there are many spaces available for pay & display. It is only a short time before we move so please could members bear with the situation and make every effort to support BPS by attending on Wednesday evenings. Recently the turnout has been poor and it is particularly depressing, not to say embarrassing, when an invited speaker who has travelled a considerable distance to share their work with us is greeted with a small audience.

Unit 13
We have now come to the end of the second week on site with the final preparation and demolition work taking place, everything is now gearing up for the next stage where we start to see thing being put in rather than taken out, the electricians have already moved in to commence their preliminary wiring. We have hit a minor snag in that a large piece of steel that was expected to be found and is necessary to hold up the first floor is in fact not there! You can see from the pictures below the "twin" of the steel we expected to find once the room on the left had been demolished, however in the second picture you can see (or should I say, not see) the missing steel. This is going to result in a new bit of structural steel work being inserted to hold up the first floor, but the contractor assures us that this will not delay the promised completion date.

This photo was taken last week. The "twin" steel in the foreground has now been removed and the room beneath it demolished, as has the timber floor joists you can see, right back to the start of the solid ceiling line.

You can see the area with the walls & floor (referred to above) now removed to expose the supporting steel that should have spanned the complete width of the building. From the enlarged section of the photograph you can see where the steel stops and mid air starts!.
Following the structural engineers report we are now awaiting the contractor's costings before we decide what work will be needed to be done.

Unit 13 - The Move
It is hoped that we will be holding our first meeting in the new premises on 27 May. We propose having an open afternoon on the previous Sunday, 24 May, when members will have a chance to see the new clubrooms in all their glory. We would like to make this a special day and as such we are planning to run a buffet and make a proper event of it. Before we start looking for outside caterers to provide the buffet and to avoid any members shouting "you should have asked me, my sister runs a catering business", is there anyone who has contacts in the catering field who could provide such a celebratory feast? If you have such a contact, would you please contact Carol Sykes as soon as possible, either at next Wednesday's meeting or by email membership@bristolphoto.org.uk
