REMINDER: Press conference with anti-apartheid icon, Anglican Dean, Muslim leader and Jewish activist

13 December 2017

Anti-Apartheid icon, Father Michael Lapsley; Dean of the St Georges Anglican Cathedral, Father Michael Weeder; Muslim Judicial Council leader, Sheikh Riaad Fataar; Jewish Activist, Heidi Graunebaum; and, Leader of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa, Father Thulani Ndlazi together with BDS will address a press conference today (Tuesday 12 December 2017) at 6 Spin Street in Cape Town starting at 14h00. Members of the media are invited to this interfaith press conference.

Representatives from the various faiths will outline their position on the recent announcement by the Trump administration regarding Israel. Last week Trump, in defiance of the international consensus, undermined International Law by recognising Jerusalem (a Palestinian city of Palestinian Christians, Muslims and Jews) as the capital of Israel and the site for the construction of a new US Embassy.

Actions and other events have and are being organised in protest of Trump's announcement and in calling for the ANC to immediately and unconditionally downgrade the SA Embassy in Tel Aviv. Details regarding a Palestine protest march to Parliament and a demonstration in Sandton will also be announced and shared with members of the media.
