BEHOLD THE LAMB

As we journey once more in the steps of our Lord to Jerusalem, the upper room, Gethsemane, the courtroom, the whipping post, Golgotha, as we see Him surrounded and taken prisoner, mocked, humiliated, condemned -- deep down we know that the world today is no less cruel. So it has been since Abel fell beneath his brother's blows.

And when the Lord of Glory was scourged and put to death, his persecutors were acting right in character. It was all started in the garden by that old snake, the devil. Revelation pictures him as a dragon. Who is able to counteract his work? His mark seems to be everywhere. Sooner or later (or both) suffering, sorrow, and trouble come upon all of us.

Oh, how we need the vision granted to John -- and written for us! In a world dominated by a beast who used miracles to deceive many and put to death many others, there is one, a Lamb, who has won the right to hold the future in His hands. In a world of serpents and beasts, the Lamb has been victorious, not only for Himself, but for us too. He has taught us to sing, and because of Him our weak and faltering efforts here resound in heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder.

Lift we then our voices, Swell the mighty flood,
Louder still and louder Praise the precious blood--

"You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth" (Revelation 5:9-10).
