Next Wednesday, 3 April, we have a change to the advertised programme when we welcome Bristol based photographer Jason Ingram, who will be presenting his talk Gardens through the Lens. Illustrated by his beautiful photographs taken through the seasons, Jason will discuss how he captures the spirit of a garden in wide and macro detail, understanding the light and how to control it.
|
|
Technical tips and tricks will be revealed throughout the conversation as he uncovers his working practice. Jason is an award winning photographer who travels widely, photographing gardens, plants, food and people for magazines, books and advertising. He regularly works with top TV gardening presenter Monty Don as well as several international Garden Designers on private projects. He has provided photography for numerous best selling gardening books and most notably has covered commissions for HRH The Prince of Wales at Highgrove. Jason won the Garden Media Guild Photographer of the Year Award in 2013, 2014 and Features Photographer of the Year Award in 2016. |

( Proposed) Photoshop Workshops for Creative Imaging - 2019
The closing date for the new creative image competition is in mid-June this year. Hands-on workshops would help members to learn Photoshop tools for producing creative images. They would also be helpful to edit images for better quality. To assess the level of interest in the workshops the following are some details:
- Who could benefit: Those wishing to produce creative mages using Photoshop.
- What is covered: Introduction to types of creative images. Basic Photoshop tools to be covered by workshop - Selection methods, Layers, Layer Masks, Blend Modes, Resizing, Distorting, Dodging & Burning, Shadows and other tools as necessary.
- Level: Generally all. It should enable you to learn new tools or for those who are somewhat familiar with Photoshop they could improve your skills.
- Requirements: A laptop with Photoshop. Willingness and commitment to learn and experiment with your own images or those that may be supplied as an exercise.
- Time and place: At the clubroom 7.30 to 9.30 pm.
Monday 8 April: This is the monthly DI meeting. First half or shorter devoted to presentations by members as usual. Second half , presentation of sample creative images, with the steps involved and ingredients for a creative image. Laptop not necessary for this meeting. Tuesday 9 April: A project with simple images handed out to make an image e.g. a cut out of a person in front of a background landscape or building. Tuesdays 16 and 23 April: Members bring their own images and projects to work with. More dates if there is a need for it.
I will be happy to share all my knowledge and hope to have some more experienced members to help with some topics. By the nature of the workshops it will be for limited numbers and as a first step I would like to know if there is sufficient interest in these workshops to begin with. Creativity is personal and these workshops may evolve as they progress. Please let me know if you are interested and what you hope to achieve from these workshops soon.

Photographic Distinctions |
The date of the BPS AGM looms ever closer which means that various officers of the club have to prepare reports ready to be checked by our auditors before being included in the BPS Annual Report. One of these includes a summary of photographic distinctions held by members. Would you please, therefore, let Carol know if your distinctions have changed since the last AGM, and that includes any of you who had RPS distinctions, but have since left the RPS.

Well done to Peter Brisley who has recently gained his BPE2* distinction.
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
