A one minute illustrated update!
Today is the first clear sunny day we’ve had for weeks. So we thought we’d take some pictures and give you a quick visual update of our beautiful building - a work in process!!
Today is the first clear sunny day we’ve had for weeks. So we thought we’d take some pictures and give you a quick visual update of our beautiful building - a work in process!!
Here you can see the progress so far. All the main concrete structures, the foundations, the outer walls and internal support walls, are complete. Here you can see the basement ceiling being prepared for a concrete pour. The black lining on the walls is a combination of waterproofing, thermal insulation and protection.
To protect the basement walls (which will be underground) there are 4 layers of black specialised rubber-based waterproof paint (6 mm thick), followed by large blue styrofoam tiles to provide thermal insulation (15 cm thick), and a final layer of thick polyurethane foil around the outside.
This is an improvised tent to allow work to continue when it's raining!
Here’s a photo of the “river” flowing around the foundations. Everyday the water has to be pumped out. This will not be a problem when the water table drops and we’ve put the earth back in around the building.
We’ve added a special reinforced ceiling / floor for the big lounge area on the ground floor. This can cater for groups up to 50 people as well as those who want to jump up and down and dance (!!). The whole area will be poured over with concrete.
Here you can see the rest of the ceiling / floor areas of the house - lots of steel rods tied together, getting ready for the concrete pour.
Finally here is the view from the “ground floor living room” - that will be! The prayer room will be one level higher.
That’s all for now. We hope you enjoyed the pics! We hope to send out another update at the end of the month.
