John 1:3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
THROUGH HIM ALL THINGS WERE MADE
How often do we think of Jesus Christ as being involved in the creation of the world? He was. Just as much as the Father -- and the Spirit hovering over the waters.
Through him all things were made. How active He was before He was ever born! Before He took on human flesh, He created human flesh. "Let us make man in our own image ..."
The pre-incarnate Christ was there in the beginning. He was God. He used His power as Almighty God.
Without Jesus there is no creation, no world, no universe, no life. The Apostle Paul put it this way in Colossians: "[Jesus] is the image of the invisible God ... For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together."
The power of Jesus is the almighty power of the Creator of all things. No wonder He could change water into wine in the blink of an eye and feed thousands with a few fish and a sack of barley biscuits. No wonder when He told wind and wave to "Be still!" it did. And right now.
This is the power that still holds you and keeps you safe in life's storms. Your Savior -- the One who came to rescue you from the jaws of eternal hell;
the One who claims you as His own; who paid your ransom to God
-- the price for your admission into the heavenly realms.
Your Savior is also your Creator. He has been personally interested in you before you were a person -- from the very beginning, interested in preserving and saving what He has made. Powerful enough to guide, protect, and keep you forever and ever. How will your Jesus -- how can your Jesus ever leave you?
But will we stick with Him? We who by nature were dead in sin. We who are so easily mislead. Our minds so beclouded. Our hearts so naturally dark. He won't leave us but won't we surely, stupidly, stray away from Him? Not as long as we depend on Him -- on our Creator, Savior, Redeemer who has forgiven our sins, given us eternal truth and renewed us in heart and mind.
All praise to Thee, eternal God, Who, clothed in garb of flesh and blood,
Dost take a manger for Thy throne, While worlds on worlds are Thine alone. Hallelujah!
(The Lutheran Hymnal, 80:1)
