A WORD ABOUT...

Our Results

In the Spring of last year, we conducted surveys of both students in the classroom and parents at home to find out if our programs are having any effect on behavior.

The results have now been tabulated and we'd like to share them with you.  To see a series of slides comparing the results from our 2009 survey of students/parents to our results in 2011 after a year of programming, click here.
A WORD ABOUT...

Bikes In Gym?

We are currently investigating ways to incorporate cycling skills and activities in to the school experience.  We've considered after school clubs and programs during gym class.

Any ideas?  Send us your thoughts.

Cleveland and Mill Street Sidewalks
The sidewalks along Mill and Cleveland Streets are slated to be installed this summer.  Because of the uneven landscape, sidewalks are proposed for only one side of the street in sections.

You can see the proposed sections of the walk in red in the diagram above.  Exisiting discontinuous sidewalk is in green.  The Mill Street sidewalk will run along the river/ravine side of the roadway on an elevated pathway.  This will make walking through the Mill Street section possible.  It's currently extremely hazardous to attempt to walk along this stretch of road.
Here Comes The Snow...
Winter is here!  With it, there is an increased danger to our kids as they navigate snow clogged sidewalks.  Here are some tips to pass on to your pedestrian children.

  •   On dark winter mornings make sure kids are visible to oncoming traffic with reflective tape or tags.

  •   Always walk on the sidewalk. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing oncoming cars and stay on the shoulder or very close to the curb.

  •   When crossing at crosswalks, wait until cars come to a complete stop before crossing. They may not be able to stop suddenly on icy roads.

  •   Take care near large snow banks that obscure visibility for walkers and cars at street crossings.

  •   Stay away from snowploughs or snow blowers. Blowing snow from these machines can reduce visibility and may include flying pieces of ice and gravel.

  •   Ask the school, school board and municipality to ensure sidewalks are cleared on at least one side of the route to school and on school property.

And parents: if you find a walkway is continually uncleared in your area, please let us now.  Fill out our snow report online.

We will work with the Village to address the problem.

We Support Our Schools

This Spring, Chagrin Schools go on the ballot with a levy necessary to maintain the quality of our district.

As we all ponder the financial choices made by our school system, we think it is appropriate to let the public know what school expenses have been paid for through our programs - not your taxes.
