Pittwater Council provides mulching service for Scotland Island

Council forms bushfire hazard reduction partnership with Scotland Island Residents Association and Rural Fire Service!

Despite the recent rain Scotland Island still has a significant risk of wild fire if the weather becomes hot and windy. Pittwater Council is committed to ensuring our safety and, acting on advice from the Rural Fire Service, is beginning the process of clearing road reserves on Scotland Island. The Council is also offering generous financial and administrative support for residents to would like to have vegetation waste mulched on road reserves alongside their properties.

On the week beginning Monday 6 December, a mulcher and two operators will be brought to the island to mulch vegetation from residents who register for the service

SIRA is assisting in this process by communicating with residents and by processing registrations, including a small fee to help offset the cost.

This is a new and welcome initiative, the first step in what we hope will be an ongoing process. SIRA encourages residents to become involved and to ensure that it works smoothly enough for us to improve the service in the future.
