Welcome to the Spring issue of <monitor input>
Exciting
Times ! - AETA have been working hard upgrading existing codecs and
working on a new and versatile codec which we hope to have on the stand
at MPTS next week. Microtech Gefell have added a new microphone to
their M300 series and HUM Audio Designs have two exciting new products
coming this year - so much so that we have had to start a list of people
wanting to try them as soon as our demonstration units arrive.
We
will be exhibiting at MPTS next week - 11th/12th May at Olympia - and
also at The Podcast Show later in the month - 25th/26th May at The
Business Design Centre at the Angel Islington - we do hope to see you at
one of these shows. Thomas Fengel from AETA will be with us at MPTS to
answer all your awkward codec questions.

AETA have been hard at work improving existing codecs and introducing new ones. Recently they have added a DANTE option in addition to the Ravenna option on many codecs, improved the ScoopTEAM and have new models in the pipeline.
First of these is the NEW ScoopyFLEX - a small battery-operated coded with two microphone inputs that can be attached to a base unit that adds a further two microphone inputs - and more...
ScoopyFLEX is the meaning of "versatile"
ScoopyFLEX Mobile device: 2 Microphones ● 2 Headphones ● 2x 4G with 3x SIM or 1x 5G ● 3x SIP accounts ● 1x Ethernet ● 1x USB A Host ● WiFi integrated ● HDMI (H.264) and Bluetooth provision.
Transmissions modes: Dual mono plus talkback ● Stereo plus talkback ● Dual stereo ● Channel bonding ● Double streaming ● Icecast/Shoutcast compatible.
Functions: SIP presence
- Audio recording (µSD, internal storage
or FTP server plus editing & playback ● 5 to 8 hrs battery life ● True AETA Remote Access ● 3 SIP accounts included ● N/ACIP compliant.
ScoopyFlex Docking: 4 Microphones ● 2x AES67 ● Native Dante or Ravenna ● 2x Line in/out ● 2x Ethernet ● 2x USB A + 1x USB-A Host ● WiFi integrated ● HDMI (H.264) and ● Bluetooth provision.
Available later this year, we will have a ScoopyFLEX at MPTS next week where AETA's Thomas Fengel will be in attendence to answer any questions.

New Gefell M 330 wide-cardioid microphone for the M 300 series
Now there are four - Microtech Gefell have expanded the M300 series by adding the NEW wide-cardioid M330 microphone.
The M330 is a superb SDC (Small Diaphragm Capacitor) microphone that matches the others in the M300 series. Like the M300 and M310 it has Gefell's unique ceramic capsule and optical power coupling.
Launched at ProLight+Sound in Frankfurt last week, we will have this new microphone on our stand (U201) at MPTS in Olympia next week (and also at The Podcast Show at the end of the month).
So now there are four microphones, all sounding basically the same, differing only in polar-pattern.
You can see the new M300 series flyer HERE
We have also updated the M300 series page on the website to include the new microphone - see HERE

To compiment their range of superb ribbon microphones, HUM Audio are launching two new products this year
LAAL - Look Ahead Analogue Limiter
This is creating some excitement and we are putting together a list of people who want to try it out as soon as we get a demo unit ...
Due Summer 2022 - information on the LAAL is HERE
The HUM Audio LAAL is a high quality 2 channel Look Ahead Analogue Limiter
HUM Audio are extremely excited to introduce the new LAAL (Look Ahead Analog Limiter).
An innovative idea of the detection and limiting process have allowed HUM Audio to achieve a new standard in analogue mastering.
One of the strongest advantage of the design is a fully
analogue (200 microseconds) delay line to obtain a “look ahead” ability.
Thanks to this. the detection circuit is able to react to even the
fastest peaks.
Another extraordinary feature of the limiter is the
DYNAMIC TRANSIENT function. It regenerates transients proportional to
the limiting level. In a few words, you can achieve great RMS at minimum
side effect.
The final addition is a STEREO WIDTH circuit that works differently and is more musical comparing to similar processors.
The picture presents a visual rendering based on
final CAD project so it will look exactly the same (apart from minor
changes to the inscriptions).
- All discrete analogue signal path
- Very high headroom (+/-24V int. powering)
- Analogue LOOK AHEAD circuit
- Variable STEREO WIDTH function
- DYNAMIC TRANSIENT function
- Variable Release Time (from 2ms to 100ms)
- Highest quality audio transformers
- Precision led metering (0.5dB steps)
- Peak Hold function for gain reduction meter
- Precision input/output setting (0.2dB steps)
- Stereo link for detection
- Limiter Bypass
- Hard Bypass
- Rotary step switches for all control knobs
N-Trophy analogue mixing console
The N-TROPHY is an all-discrete analogue mixing console of the very highest quality, Customer specified from 8-channels up to 64-channels
Due late 2022, The production consoles will be bespoke, individually built to order,
and can be specifiled with a minimum of 8 input channels, up to a
maximum of 64. We should be having a demonstration channel unit (pictured above) shortly and are now making a list of people interested in trying it out.
Main features of a single channel:
- MIC/LINE preamp based on legendary JE990 discrete opamp
- Valve (vacuum tube) optical compressor with blending knob and S.C. filter
- Passive EQ with separate frequency knobs for BOOST and CUT
- THD stage with selectable distortion type (symmetrical and asymmetrical)
- Custom made audio transformers
- Switchable external insert with blending knob
- ORDER switch to select order of Compressor, EQ and Insert
- In-line structure with “B” Volume and “B” Pan knobs
- 8 mono (4 stereo) AUX with selectable source (fader “A” or “B”)
- 8 Group sends
- Sifam VU meter with selectable source (incl. compressor G.R.)
- DIRECT output with volume knob and source selector
- Flying Fader automation with DAW controlling ability
- (±24V) internal powering for very high headroom
- Solid aluminium knobs, ALPS pots and gold-plated switches
- 7cm wide channel for comfortable operation
- Each channel has independent connection with summing
stage in the master section. It allows the reduction of the summing bus
lenght to only 5″ (12.5cm).
- Custom configerable from 8 channel inputs up to a maximum of 64 channel inputs (in steps of 8 channels)

Now there are 10 - There are now ten different versions of the Håkan Pop Killer and we do aim to keep every one in stock. Also, we have discovered that the "Neumann BCM" version also fits the Neumann TLM 103 (clipping to the microphone body).
The Pop Killer has been selling very well over the last few months due to the fact that it is so hygienic and easy to wash.
The updated Data Sheet of the Pop Killers is HERE
The Pop Killer website page is HERE
As the Gefell small diaphragm microphones come without a microphone clip, we have now sourced the NEW MH 20 clip. This is an inexpensive clip (£7 +VAT retail) that will fit almost any microphone with a diameter from 20mm up to about 30mm.
It will fit the Gefell M300 series, M290 series, SMS 2000 series as well as the MD 100 series and the M900 & M910.
