Mark 7:24 "... yet he could not keep his presence secret."

HE'S BY OUR SIDE

Something Jesus could not do? He could speak the word and heal a nobleman's son or a centurion's servant. He could calm a storm or cool a fever. He could feed thousands with a few biscuits and a couple fish. But here in Tyre, outside of his usual environs, He wanted to travel incognito, to find some rest and relaxation for Himself and His disciples, yet He could not keep His presence a secret!

Was it because He was a foreigner, and stuck out like a sore thumb? Probably not. Sometimes celebrities have trouble going to the grocery store because they are so well-known. But there were no newspapers, People magazines, movie posters, or television entertainment channels to acquaint everyone with Jesus' appearance. Why could He not keep His presence a secret?

In His home town of Nazareth, where everyone had known Him for years, Jesus could be "hidden" from the people who wanted to throw Him off a cliff, but on vacation in a foreign country He could not keep his presence secret.

It was not because of His appearance, or because He was a foreigner to those parts, but because of His desire to help people. It was because He was the Savior! As soon as a woman heard about Him, she came and fell at His feet. Her little daughter was demon-possessed and she looked to Jesus for help. He told her, in effect, that this was His day off. She looked to Him anyway. And He helped her!

And as surely as He came to die for us, so surely will He also help us in every need that overtakes us!
