Luke 24:32 They said to each other, "Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?"

EASTER FIRE

Sometimes we might wish we could see Jesus, risen and living, to reassure us that everything will be all right. But these two disciples did not really "see" Him as Jesus, and yet their hearts were burning within them. They were studying the Scriptures which they had known from little on, the Word of God.

Now we have that same Word of God, that same Christ speaking through His apostles and prophets also in the New Testament, opening our eyes to see that God so loved this tottering world that He gave His only begotten Son to be the atoning sacrifice for the sins of all! Does that not kindle the fire within us?

Sometimes when darkness approaches peoples' lives, they just want to be alone. "It makes me too sad," they say, "to be around happy people." These two disciples surely could have felt that way. Not only had they lost their friend and teacher, but also their hope. "We had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel," was the way they put it.

Of course, it was not at that time that they invited Jesus to stay with them. That came later. But when they were in darkness and gloom in the middle of the day, that was when Jesus invited Himself to walk with them. That was when He opened the Scriptures to them and warmed their hearts.
