Dear MACRO members,
It is with a very sad heart that I must report to you that Professor Bruce Benward, the founder of MACRO, passed away on September 15th. This organization would not exist without Bruce's creativity, charisma, knowledge, and energy. So many members of the organization comment on the atmosphere of our workshops and of the organization in general. We can attribute this to the tone Bruce set with everyone he came into contact with, whether it be the Dean of a college, or a beginning student in music theory. He will be missed, but he will live on in all of the musician's he taught, and through the activities of this organization.
The family is planning a service to celebrate the life of both Bruce and his wife Gene, in January here in Madison, WI. I will contact you with further information as it is made available. We are planning to create a book of student and colleague memories of Bruce. Please take a minute to write down your favorite stories about Bruce and send them to me via email. I know I could write at least a chapter on my own, so I hope to hear from all of you as well!
I think I can speak for the whole organization when I say that our thoughts go out to Bruce's family at this time.
