1 Kings 3:9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil.

GIVE US WISDOM TO VALUE THE RIGHT THINGS, O GOD

The Lord presented King Solomon with an amazing choice, "Ask! What shall I give you?" There were no limitations to what Solomon could receive because the Almighty God was the one making the offer.

Solomon showed a glimmer of the greater wisdom that he was about to receive with his answer above. He knew the value of being able to discern between good and evil, especially as he would be in a position of power and authority as the King of Israel.

This is a worthy petition that we may address to the Lord as well. Satan is laying traps for us day by day. He dresses up evil to make it look very appealing to us. He knows that the one who values anything above God will end up losing his faith in God. Sin, then, is portrayed as exciting, while righteousness is dismissed as boring. Selfishness is cloaked with an aura of fun, but paying attention to the things of God is presented as drudgery.

Oh, that the Lord would grant us wisdom to value what is good and right--His will and His ways. Pray the Holy Spirit that you may value the eternal over the temporary.
