WHAT: The Wheel’s national Charity Summit will bring together the leaders of over 400 leading charities and community groups to discuss the key challenges for Irish society and the charity sector. The event is Ireland’s largest gathering of civil society organisations. The programme includes contributions from 46 top speakers.
Highlights:
- Sustainable public services: panel discussion with Pat Rabbitte, Chair of Tusla & others (9.50am)
- The role of charities in delivering mainstream public services
- Pay parity with the public sector
- The growing funding crisis in health, social care services.
- Keynote: Joe O’Brien TD, Minister for Community Development and Charities (9.40am)
- Panel discussion chaired by Fr Peter McVerry on countering threats and restrictions on freedom of association facing NGOs/charities in Ireland (2.30pm)
- Special address: Dr Sean Healy, Founder of Social Justice Ireland to mark his retirement in 2023.
- Announcement of winners of 2023 Dr Mary Redmond Award, a national honour bestowed by The Wheel’s board of directors on a person who has made an extraordinary contribution to civil society in Ireland. The award is named after Dr Mary Redmond, the late academic, lawyer and founder of The Wheel and the Irish Hospice Foundation (4.15pm)
