When BBC 6Music asked him to do a show he had one condition, it had to be a soul and funk show otherwise not interested! And so the “Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show” came into being right at the very start of 6Music, way back in March 2002.

The show is currently broadcast every Saturday night between 7 and 10 and is also available at any time through the listen again facility on the BBC 6 Music iplayer.

Since its inception all varieties of soul and funk music have been aired without imposing any barriers and he is just as enthusiastic about fresh new talent as he is about the classic artists from the golden age of the 60s and 70s.

Craig has also recently encouraged unsigned bands to get in touch and send in their demos to get played on the show and have had a great response with some seriously good music being sent from all over the globe.

2009 saw senior Charles pack up his trunk of funk and enjoyed a handful of DJ gigs, funking the dance floors! This Included - Elbowroom in Leeds, The Big Chill House in London and Bristol and our very own loft in the CELLAR..!

He now has monthly residencies at Band on the Wall in Manchester and Floridita in London’s Soho. His DJ set was also voted by the SUN newspaper one of the highlights of Glastonbury – With lots of UK festival gigs under his belt for 2010, Glastonbury, Kendal Calling, Big Chill, Limetree & Vintage At Goodwood ….

2011 is set to be the funkiest year yet and it doesn’t look like the funk is going to stop anytime soon!
