Happenings at the Inn in December

The elves are busy putting on the Christmas Quilts and decorating for the Holidays at the Inn.

A Carriage Way Bed and Breakfast Gift Certificate is the perfect gift for that person that has everything, but needs to getaway.  You can now order your gift certificates directly by selecting "reserve now" from our website or feel free to call us and we will be happy to help.

We thoroughly enjoyed this year's Halloween Party and appreciate the creative talent of our guests for their costumes.  We were honored to have Tony Fernandez here for his gift as a medium and his contribution to the event.  Witch Sandy (third from the left) took the prize for "Funniest" and "Best of Show" in our costume contest and Bonnie's son Tyler (left), took the prize for both "Scariest" and "Most Original" for his split personality portrayal of "Jekyll and Hyde"

December 4-5 - Grand Illumination and British Encampment

This is one of the most popular event weekends in St. Augustine.  Experience life in St. Augustine during the 1763-1784 British occupation. On Saturday evening enjoy the British Night Watch Parade, an impressive pageantry of color and light that reflects the customs of the occupants during that period.

Best Bets for December:

  • Dec 3rd - British Night Watch Opening Event
  • Dec 3rd - First Friday Art Walk
  • Dec 4th - St. Augustine Community Concert Orchestra
  • Dec 4th - 56th Annual St. Augustine Christmas Parade
  • Dec 5th - 42nd Annual Christmas Tour of Homes
  • Dec 11th - Regatta of Lights
  • Dec 11th and 12th - 17th Annual Holiday Tour of Bed and Breakfast Inns
  • Dec 17th - 19th - St. Augustine Community Ballet presents the Nutcracker
Recipes and Tips

New Cookbook Request:  We have about a dozen new recipes, but we need more as we put together the second cookbook that features the best family recipes from our guests here at the Carriage Way.  The cookbook will have one recipe on a page and we would like you to provide a short story that complements the recipe.  Send us only your best and if we print your recipe, we will send you a complimentary copy. For inspiration, David and Rosemary from Littleborough in the UK sent us their recipes for Parkin (ginger cake) and Irish Whisky Christmas Cake and we love the background information.

Cleaning tip:  If Santa leaves behind carpet stained by chimney soot try this cleaning tip.  Vacuum up as much of the loose particles as possible.  Sprinkle the stain with salt and let stand for 1-2 hours and then vacuum.  Repeat until you have removed as much as possible.  Apply a carpet spotter according to their directions.  For your trouble, ask Santa for additional gift!
