Welcome to the "Season"

Welcome to the "Season" from Sage Hill Farms....the 'season' of Spring- and all she holds in store for this fabulous earth we call home.

Yes, many call it the "flu" season, and yes, there are many threats being thrown at us on a daily basis. Does this make it so? Something to be fearful of? Or, maybe they are invitations to look past the hype, find our own level of awareness and move forward with a plan and the knowing that "there is nothing to fear but fear itself."

Along with my own ideas and commitments I have consulted a few of the most knowledgeable people I know in the practice of being the best one can be...and it's all in our grasp. If you have been waiting for a reason to make changes in your lifestyle, integrate methods that will bring you in alignment with your spirit, calm your stressors, and bring long lasting accomplishments, what better time than when we are face to face with what has the potential to jerk life as we know it right from under us.

Listen up! We have the power to determine our own fate to a much greater level than many think.

We all are from a higher power. Make the connection, find your spirit, let it guide you, share it with others, know that your maker did not put you on this earth to be frightened, sick and downtrodden. You have to make the first move, open up to "more." Remember the "light bulb moment."

We are only as strong as our weakest point.

With utilizing the connections in this one article we have the tools to make our body, soul, and mind stronger.

To arm ourselves with an armor stronger than steel...healthy body, healthy mind, and healthy spirit.

I depend on herbs in many different forms to add glue to my armor. Fresh from my gardens and in the form of essential oils that pack a double dose of power in any way I choose to use them.

Good health, a healthy environment, and spreading the word are my passion. Please join me in this passion; it is the best gift to self and one you can give away, over and over.

Faye Durham, Barbara Desmarais, and I (Bea Kunz) are all experts in ways to bring our good health and that of those we love and care for, full circle.

Read and connect, we are here to guide and answer any questions you may have. ~

Fresh dried dill and the Salad Blend are now available from the new spring harvest.

*A garden tip: Many areas of the country have had torrential amounts of rain in the last few weeks...including my part of Tennessee. Don't work your garden soil when it is wet. It will dry hard and compacted and anything you planted will more than likely not do well.

So much has been written about how to prevent swine flu. There is certainly cause for concern as we have a chance to consider how serious the situation might be. A few years ago, they scared us with SARS and more recently the Avian flu. Neither of these became epidemics.

Even though the virus may be laboratory derived, it should be taken seriously. If it is, it is probably more dangerous than from natural sources.

Here are some simple ways to protect yourself.
"How to Prevent Swine Flu":

  • Hand washing
  • Covering nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth
  • Avoid contact with people who have the flu
  • Wear a surgical mask (controversy on efficacy)

These are good recommendations from the Center for Disease Control but are these measures enough?

Personally, I don't think so. I know that I am doing more than this to protect myself.

There are many natural remedies that will raise your immunity to the swine flu or other viral or bacterial diseases.

Most people will not become sick because the issue is not the virus but susceptibility.

Exposure will lead to disease only if the immune system is suppressed. We constantly have bacteria in our throats yet we rarely experience strep throat. The same is true of Swine Flu or other viral strains.

Some 40 percent of the immune system is found in the intestinal track and 40 percent is in the thymus gland, which produces immune stimulating cells. Do not suppress mucus. It is important that the body discharge toxins. Those of us who use therapeutic essential oils (Young Living) have such an amazing arsenal at our fingertips for prevention and treatment of the Swine Flu (and MRSA and other Superbugs too!).

The plant kingdom (where essential oils are derived), has the answer when it comes to preventing and treating viruses, and even virulent ones, along with other pathogenic organisms.

Using essential oils, herbs, and whole-food vitamins will increase your health and reduce your susceptibility.

Along with building up my immune system with probiotics (I like Life 5 from YL), I take Longevity capsules daily. Longevity essential oils are the world's most powerful antioxidant supplement. It has clove, thyme, orange and frankincense essential oils.

At the first sign of flu symptoms, I take Inner Defense, which has:

  • Oregano
  • Thyme
  • Cinnamon

Hand soaps and sanitizers are being recommended, as well.

I choose pure Thieves Waterless Hand Gel - with therapeutic grade essential oils (not perfume grade). Not only does it clean but it acts as a protective glove.

Lifestyle advice:

  1. Maintain a healthy, balanced diet, rich in minerals, such as magnesium, potassium, selenium, zinc and folic acid.
  2. Avoid excess fear, anxiety, and depression, which can compromise immune function.
  3. Avoid physical and mental overexertion which can down regulate the immune response. Essential oils, such as lavender have a powerful relaxing effect on the mind and body, thus stimulating immune function.
  4. Hydrate. Avoid contaminated or chlorinated water. Chlorine inhibits thyroid function interfering with the uptake of iodine and amino acids and slows down immune function. Add a drop of lemon, peppermint, or spearmint to drinking water.
  5. Get plenty of sleep.

Handling a Crisis When You Have Young Children

By: Barbara Desmarais
Parenting and Life Coach

The past year or so has seen many people lose their jobs, their cars, their homes and many of the extras they’ve become accustomed to. If you’re not directly affected, you’re indirectly affected because you may have a family member going through a crisis or be living in fear and anxiety that you’re next. Most recently we’ve had the scare of swine flu. All these things shake our foundation. The natural flow of life has suddenly changed course.

How do we explain these events to young children? How do we stay calm and maintain their sense of safety and security when we’re surrounded by so much uncertainty that is out of our control? Children are always affected when the adults in their lives are trying to deal with a crisis or a major change that was imposed rather than chosen. It can be very frightening and confusing for them because they don’t understand it but they know something is different and it doesn’t feel good.

We don’t do our children a favor by sheltering from all things that are bad. Life is full of ups and downs and bad things happen. Using language that is age appropriate, we can calmly tell them what has happened, without instilling fear or panic. They deserve to know the facts. If they don’t know, they’ll assume they are to blame for all the tension in the house. They also need to hear “We’ll get through this” and “No matter what, we have what’s most important and that’s each other.” Children don’t need to be told that something “might” happen before it’s actually happened. Also, when we’re anxious and afraid, our anxiety and fear often turns to anger which can frequently be directed towards the people we love the most; our spouse and/or our children. We need to find someone we can safely discuss our concerns with who can help keep our emotions in check. Above all, the most important message children need to hear is “We’ll get through this.”
