Join us at BookShop West Portal for an evening with poet Ricardo Pau-Llosa for a reading from his sixth collection of poems Parable Hunter (Carnegie Mellon University 2008). Ricardo Pau-Llosa, a Pulitzer-nominated Cuban-American poet, pioneer art critic of Latin American Art, and author of short fiction, has been published in American Poetry Review, Denver Quarterly, Iowa Review, Kayak, Kenyon Review, New England Review, Ontario Review, Partisan Review, Southern Review, and TriQuarterly.
“
Through the eyes of the innocent and those that are world weary, Rachel
Kushner creates a mesmerizing and deeply intelligent tale of the unraveling
of the privileged and at times surreal life of Americans in Cuba in the
1950s. “Telex From Cuba” is a heady and richly imagined
tapestry.”
Please join us at 6:30 PM for a glass of wine to help celebrate the publication of his latest novel. Ethan is an old friend and we are delighted to welcome him home to San Francisco.
From the bestselling author of The Palace Thief and Carry Me Across the Water comes this stunning novel, set in the Nixon era and today, about a great family, a political tragedy, and the impact of fate on history.
John Updike recently enthused, “Like Dickens, Canin has an unabashed fantastic streak.”
BookShop West Portal is the bookstore at the 2008 San Francisco Writing For Change Conference at Hotel Kabuki on Post Street. Writing For Change is devoted to non-fiction writing that brings about positive change, from the personal to the planetary. The speakers will talk about change in politics, culture, business, marketing, technology, spirituality, social issues, the environment, health and nutrition, international relations, food, medical services, personal development, and the criminal justice system.
Attendees have the chance to network, learn from and share their ideas with authors, agents, editors and publishing professionals from the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and New York.
