This was my message to students this morning about the MSU shooting.

Good morning. It is sad that I have to speak about another school shooting. I’m sad for all those involved. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to understand why cowards do this.
Unfortunately, students across the Midwest will begin to think the tragedy is an opportunity for dark humor. A way to get "likes." A way to shock others. I am telling you, from the last event in Oxford, that decision is a life-changing decision. I know a number of students who were charged with domestic terrorism for comments or posts in our area. That eliminates you from many adult opportunities. While I pray for all those involved, I also pray for all of you to check yourselves before commenting. Be smart. Don’t turn this event into your own tragedy.
Finally, I am so thankful that we have a culture that respects safety at our school. It is great that we have Officer Hendrie, but our most important security feature is you. If you hear or see something out of the ordinary or something that doesn’t feel right, please report it to the office or a teacher. If you need support, please come to the counseling office. The counselors are here to help you process. Be safe.

Be Well,
Scott Sherman
