NCIN Program Awards Grants to 55 Schools of Nursing
|
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) recently announced the schools of nursing that have been selected to participate in RJWF’s prestigious New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program (NCIN). During the 2012-2013 academic year, these schools will receive grants to support students in accelerated baccalaureate and master’s degree nursing programs, who are traditionally underrepresented in the field and are pursuing a second career in nursing. The NCIN Scholarship Program was launched in 2008 by the RWJF and AACN to expand enrollment in accelerated degree programs in schools of nursing while increasing diversity in the nursing workforce.

Today’s academic leader must possess a high degree of resiliency to effectively respond to calls for increasing accountability, higher performance expectations, and accelerating change. AACN invites nursing deans and faculty from across the nation to join us for the 2012 Summer Seminar that will provide practical tips for working smarter, not harder. Titled Pumping Iron: Building Resiliency to Counteract Stress, this year’s event will be held at the historic Hotel Viking in picturesque Newport, RI, on July 22-25, 2012.
Using reflective exercises, diagnostic tools, and engaging discussion, this fascinating and fun program will introduce attendees to new tools and alternative approaches that empower academic leaders to hold others accountable while elevating productivity and managing stress. Participants will take away:
- Personal insights and coping strategies to protect the time we need for ourselves and our work
- Practical tools for diagnosing challenging situations, reducing stress, and building resiliency in organizational settings
- Fresh ideas and creative approaches for teaching resiliency to nursing students
- Sensible strategies for enhancing leadership effectiveness and improving productivity in the academic workplace
This year’s speaker, Mary J. Connaughton, MS, RN, possesses more than 30 years of nursing leadership and healthcare consulting experience, specializing in executive coaching, leadership development, and strategic planning. Her own nursing practice, regardless of role, has always centered on patients and the development and mentoring of individuals and teams. Ms. Connaughton’s years in leadership roles have fueled her fierce commitment to supporting nursing academic leaders to be at their best in service to exemplary patient care.
Back by popular demand, the Summer Seminar returns to Newport, RI, a seaside resort community, which boasts a number of historic homes, a thriving seaport, a robust arts scene, and majestic coastal vistas. This beautiful setting is the perfect East Coast destination for a mid-summer retreat that you can enjoy with colleagues as well as family members.
