Psalms 127:1 Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain.
SUCCESS DEPENDS ON THE LORD
This is the time of year when we look forward to opening the doors of our Sunday Schools (and Christian Day Schools, for churches that are so blessed). Youth classes for high school age students will be resumed in some of our churches. Catechism instruction classes for confirmation age youngsters will be conducted. All for the noble purpose of passing on to the next generation the soul-saving truths of God's holy Word.
As we begin another year of training up our children for Jesus in these various agencies of Christian education, let's be reminded of how alone success is assured in our efforts. We can accomplish nothing worthwhile in the church apart from our Lord's prospering hand. We need to look to Him, our Good Shepherd, to bless our sowing of the Gospel seed in the hearts of His lambs.
To that end we pray: Lord Jesus, precious Savior, You have instructed us to teach Your Word diligently to our children. For that reason we commend to Your watchful care all forms of Christian education among us. Whether in private Bible study or in the weekly Sunday School hour, whether in elementary or secondary education, make us diligent to keep Your Word an active part of our lives and to support the training in the Word for all ages. Because we enjoy forgiveness in You, we wish to teach Your forgiveness, O Christ. Bless our efforts in Your holy name. Amen.
