Greetings & Blessings to all
Welcome to our July newsletter.
Last month I mentioned that Bridget’s roses were all blown and I didn’t have them for her birthday. I said I had to wait a month or two before I get a new wave of blossoms. Well, I was wrong. It must be her influence because I have a whole new wave of rose blooms already.
Summer is here and we have the heat and rain we should expect. I’ve been ensuring the rain by watering the roses. Every time I water, it rains. Perhaps I’ll put a pic of the roses in the newsletter so you can see them for yourselves. Oh, and Bridget’s blue Hydrangea is equally beautiful.
I have a request from all of you this month. I hope you’re not bored by the newsletter and, to help avoid any boredom, I’d like you to send me suggestions. Perhaps for a new category you’d like to see. I will respond and consider seriously any ideas you may have. My thanks in advance –Russ
Enough of my nattering.
Again my thanks for the contributions. Please keep them coming. I would like appropriate news or other links more than anything.
We’re all in this together let’s make it as good as we can. Stay with me everybody.
Enough of the blather...
Is this your first edition? Many thanks for joining us and if you like our musings and meanderings please feel free to share them with your family and friends. And do encourage them to sign up. The more of us, the merrier! And for all of our readers, we hope this issue finds you in good health, good spirits and good company.
On with the update...

1.Forget Stonehenge - thanks to heatwave Ireland makes major new ancient discovery
The Irish heatwave has recently led to the discovery of a large circular enclosure near the famous ancient site, Newgrange, in County Meath.
The circle was found by Anthony Murphy, founder of Mythical Ireland, who used drones around the Brú na Bóinne area to take photos on Wednesday. It is said that the potentially 4,500-year-old circle was uncovered because of the dry weather conditions.

This is really interesting to me —Russ
2.Ireland’s drought could be over: showers forecast for Wednesday
Met Éireann says that by Wednesday showers will spread across the northern half of the island, which will have top temperatures of 17-20 degrees in the coming days. Over Munster and south Leinster top temperatures will reach 21-23 degrees. Winds will be light northeasterly and moderate near coasts.
Again that’s a high of about 74 degrees f, I wish I had temps like that. Mine are still in the 90’s f —Russ
3.Irish Air Corps called to gorse fire on Slieve Gullion
It follows a request from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) to attend the incident at Slieve Gullion, two miles across the border.
The gorse fire covers an area of approximately 100 acres and is encroaching upon an area of special scientific interest.
NIFRS said it requested assistance due to the deep-seated nature of the fire.
A fire service spokesperson said two Irish Air Corps helicopters are at the scene.

Reminds me of the west coast wild fires in the states (but smaller)—Russ
4. Volunteers help hospice patient’s beach wish come true
There are times in life when it’s the most simple of things that make the biggest difference – and thanks to the kindness of
volunteers at Oranmore Civil Defence, one patient at Galway Hospice had her wish to visit the beach granted.
Margaret Goode, like many of us over the past few weeks, was longing to hear the waves crashing, but her health was restricting her – and leaving the hospice to get to the seaside was looking less and less likely.

5. Dublin apartment or Georgian house in Roscommon for €150,000
This Georgian house on five acres of land is more than 300 years old. The 371.6sq m (4,000sq ft) home retains period features such as decorative plasterwork, flagstone floors and wooden shutters, although the windows have been replaced with PVC copies. Inside is a living room with marble fireplace, a kitchen/dining room with Stanley range, store, scullery and shower room. Upstairs are six bedrooms, one with an en suite. It is 2.5km from Ballymoe village and 9km from Castlerea town.

Hmmm, it said one of the ‘cons’ was non-authentic PVC windows. I guess I’m spoiled I’d rather the energy efficient PVC—Russ
6. Top ten greatest places in Ireland to visit
Countless people we have come across have talked about going to Ireland “someday” and when that day comes they better have these magical spots on their list of places to visit.
From the magical Saturday mornings in Dublin’s city to the wild and almost inaccessible highlands of Donegal here’s a list of places in Ireland you should most certainly add to your list.

Of course, everyone has a different idea of what the ‘ten best’ would be; but it’s fun to see what they think—Russ
QUOTES, TOASTS , CURSES AND BLESSINGS
‘I was born on a storm-swept rock and hate the soft growth of sun-baked lands where there is no frost in men’s bones."

A BIT OF THE WIT
The fickleness of the women I love is only equalled by the infernal constancy of the women who love me.
George Bernard Shaw
JOKE OF THE MONTH
A man comes home from an exhausting day at work, plops down on the couch in front of the television, and tells his wife, "Get me a Guinness before it starts." The wife sighs and gets him a Guinness. Fifteen minutes later, he says, "Get me another before it starts." She looks cross, but fetches another Guinness and slams it down next to him. He finishes that one and a few minutes later says, "Quick, get me another, it's going to start any minute." The wife is furious. She yells at him "Is that all you're going to do tonight? Drink beer and sit in front of that TV? You're nothing but a diabolical, desperate, mangled midden, and furthermore ..."The man sighs and says, "It's started ..."

1. The Popularity of Patrick as a Christian name in Ireland is due to the great 17th century general, Patrick Sarsfield, not our patron saint?
I expect to hear some argument about this—Russ

If you are planning on getting married between now and then or tied the knot in the month of July, here is your special verse:
They who in July do wed,
Must labor always for their bread.
And, if you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event between now and our next edition, we hope it's an occasion filled with joy and happiness.
We’ll take our leave with this blessing:
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
All the best & God Bless,
Bridget & Russ
Get down on your knees and thank God you’re still on your feet.

LEAVE 'EM LAUGHING
Sean and his wife, Aoife, had been debating buying a vehicle for weeks. He wanted a truck. She wanted a fast little sports-like car so she could zip through traffic around town. He would probably have settled on any beat up old truck, but everything she seemed to like was way out of their price range. "Look!" she said. "I want something that goes from 0 to 200 in just a few seconds. Nothing else will do. My birthday is coming up so surprise me!" Sean did just that. For her birthday, he bought her a brand new bathroom scale. Nobody has seen or heard from him since.
