Since its establishment in 1996, Mi Casa Gallery has grown to become one of the most respected exhibitors of Mexican religious and folk art in Central Texas.  Owners Jim and Kelly Luedecke have invited Austin Friends of Folk Art to an open house and presentation about links between Mexican folk retablos, of which they have an impressive collection, and the art of José Guadalupe Posada (made famous by his
engravings of horse-riding, cigar-smoking, hat-wearing skeletons) and the art of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.

Light refreshments will be served.

Cost: Free to AFFA members. Guests, $5.00 at the door.

This is the first exhibition to explore the rich artistic legacy of the Franciscan and Jesuit mission churches in northern Mexico and the American Southwest.  The exhibition includes approximately 125 objects from collections in Mexico, the United States, and Europe, including many from the missions themselves, most of which have never left their original locations.

After presenting workshops at Kansas University, New Hampshire Institute of Art, Weavers Guilds' at Rhode Island & Northampton, Mass, and N. Carolina State University, Shyamala Rao, a textile artist from Mumbai, India, will present a unique demonstration of the fine art of block printing on textiles.

Hand block printing, an ancient craft handed down through generations, is in the forefront of the fashion scene today.  This workshop is a rare opportunity for all lovers of folk art and fine fabrics.

Bring your t-shirt, skirt or any piece of cloth (best on light-colored smooth cotton) to try your own hand at this ancient Indian art form.  Create a personal handmade Christmas gift! Dyes & Blocks will be provided.  Hand carved wooden blocks will be available for purchase.
