Here’s another building update – for those of you who like to be kept up to date with the Prayer House building. I know it’s only been a month since we last wrote, but there’s been significant progress...
We’ve had some amazing weather. Sunshine every day for weeks and weeks. And when you’re putting a roof on a building, that’s exactly what you need – dry weather!
I remember this time last year, when we were building the basement – it rained and rained for weeks. It was truly miserable. But through the rain the Lord showed us that the drainage system we were about to put around the basement was not going to work. The water table was far too high. And in these circumstances, instead of water flowing away from the house, the water would flow back towards the house, which is really not good at all! So instead of installing a drainage system that wasn’t going to work, the builder and architect came up with a truly wonderful watertight solution! All of these important decisions were due to the weather. We’ve had rain when we needed rain, and we’ve had sunshine when we needed sunshine. God really is in charge. Praise You Lord!
And now with all this brilliant sunshine we are way ahead of schedule. As I’m writing this there are 7 people working on the roof, all making good use of the weather. There are approximately 4400 roof tiles that are being put in place, with every 3rd tile being fixed with a clip – as well as gutters, sheet metal, roof windows, and other bits and pieces. At this rate we anticipate that the roof could be finished by this time next week. The builder still has a bit more work to do to complete the contract – the porch (the roof area over the entrance), the soffits (the wooden area under the roof that overhangs the walls of the building), and some internal walls and structures.
This phase of the building should be complete by the beginning of November.
Ok, here are 3 photos, which is enough to show you the extent of the work that has been carried out.
