Wednesday 24 April
Extraordinary General Meeting - Please be at the clubrooms by 7pm for the start of this important meeting to discuss the Council’s Report ‘BPS Finances, Budget & Membership Fees’ sent to the Membership on Wednesday 10 April 2024. See separate email for details of this part of the evening.
After the conclusion of this, we commence the scheduled programme with a talk from our very own John Hudson ARPS DPAGB ASPS SPSA who will be regaling us with his talk entitled The Pains, Pleasures and Processes of Drone and Performance Photography.

Until very recently photography has been limited by where you could put your feet, The advent of small, portable (in your pocket) relatively cheap, camera drones has changed all that.  John will be demonstrating the use of drones for still photography and what it has meant for him in opening up a whole range of new photographic possibilities.  Whilst showing images, he will also mention the practical side of planning, taking and processing photographs with a drone.
Many of you will have seen some of John’s dance and theatre photography. This evening he will be exploring this and new approaches he is developing to presenting these images and the processes involved when editing them. Perhaps more importantly John will be showing the range of performance photography that is readily available to everyone.

Prior to the meeting, from 6.30 onwards (The EGM is at 7.00pm) weather permitting, John will fly a drone in front of the club rooms as a practical demonstration.

Have a look at John's website to see more about him and his photography: www.jahphotographer.net

Below are a couple of John's images from his talk:

Only Mono: Print Battle - 6 April
We had all sorts of technical issues with this item last week, as a result of which the wrong image was reproduced (for the second week). In a nutshell, I sent the correct image to the mailing company, but they saw fit to swap it for one previously published in 2023. So, for the third time, let's try to show you the BPS entry in the Only Mono competition:

Images by: Andrew Whettam, Barry Mead, Derwood Pamphilon & Mike Martin.

Amateur Photographer Of The Year 2024 (APOY)
This competition has been running for many years, yet despite it being possible free to enter, BPS has been under-represented, giving Launceston CC a clear run, winning the club section for the last three years.
They are a smaller club but have won through the sheer number of members participating (27 individuals had images selected over the year!) – we have a pool of photographers that could steal this crown and take the generous prize should we put our minds to it.

You may recall in 2021, Mike Martin came fourth overall, and projected BPS to second place in the club ranking on his own!  Competition in 2022 was stiffer but we still managed 6th place overall, following the efforts of Steve Field, Colin Dixon and Mike. Last year the combined efforts of Mike Martin, Steve Field and Jay Hallsworth saw us finish in equal 7th.

If more members participate, we should be well placed to do well. So, PLEASE join in.

They assume that the submitted image is the highest resolution available, and since they need images that are good enough/large enough to print, there is a risk that photos that are judged less favourably)
