From the Church Guy
The Church Guy loves his church.

The Church Guy also loves being on vacation with his wife.  Don't take it personally, but a Church Guy needs time away to refresh, regenerate and recreate.

The Church Guy will be off duty for two of the Sundays in July.  The Church Guy thanks the Vestry and people of St. Mark's for allowing it.  The Church Guy also thanks the parish for supporting the Rev. Judy Kessler and the Rev. Lisa Busby, who will be in church when the Church Guy is away.

The Church Guy loves his church, and promises to come back!

Thanks for the Music!
Our choir has the summer off.  Church choirs make a big commitment by providing music for Sunday services.  It's a lot of work.  And a special word of thanks goes to their director, our organist Cindi Ferranti.  The St. Mark's Choir has graced us with many beautiful anthems this past academic year. We thank them and hope they enjoy their time off this summer.  We'll be glad to welcome them back in September.

Thank You from Bob Peterson (and Judy)
Greetings from the Peterson family.  Thank you to everyone who participated in the Scleroderma Walk on Sunday, June 7th, whether as a donor, walker or sponsor.  All are greatly appreciated.  Special thanks to Father Mark for funding t-shirts for the walkers, and hand-decorating each one with the St. Mark's Lion and the words "for Judy" below it.  A big thank you to Stacey Gridely for getting the ball rolling with a St. Mark's Team website.  Stacey also served as team captain and took many very nice photographs.  Together, with donors from among family, friends, and neighbors, the St. Mark's team raised over $6,300 for research to help find a cure for Scleroderma and Pulmonary Hypertension.  This earned us a first place award!  This was a most gracious and generous tribute to my wife and best friend, and fulfilled one of her last wishes.  My heartfelt thanks to all of you.

All told, the walk raised over $35,000! This is an annual event, and I sincerely hope we can participate again next year.

 Reception Thank You
Many thanks to Mary Taylor and all the folks who helped with the reception on April 24th following the Celebrtion of Judy Peterson's Life.  The service and reception were fitting tributes to a wonderful person.  Thank you from the entire Peterson family.

Don't Forget - Our Youth Will Ramp It Up!
The weekend of August 29 is our date to build a ramp under the auspices of the Broome County Council of Churches.  We've done this each summer since the start of the Ramp It Up project of the Council.  Keep your calendars marked and your gloves handy!

 Children's Summer Program
We will be offering a Sunday morning summer program for the children from July 12 thru August 16. It will run during the same time as regular church school classes -- the first part of the service.  We'll look at some environmental issues and how we can help and work on some outreach projects.

 Book Club
Our book selection for July is Unfamiliar Fishes by Sarah Vowell.  Best selling author of six non-fiction books on American History and Culture, Vowell, with her trademark smart-alecky insights, sets off to discover the history of our fiftieth state and in the process she finds America, warts and all.  A rollicking good read!

Mark Your Calendar for St. Mark's Picnic
On Sunday, August 30, the St. Mark's Parish Picnic will be held at the Port Dickinson Town park.  We'll have services in the church at 8:00 and 10:00 for those not attending the picnic.  But we'll also have a simple outdoor Eucharist at the park in the pavilion at noon.  The picnic will follow immediately, rain or shine!
