My wife and I just planted some small bushes in our front yard. I’m not always confident something I planted will grow. Even more so with seeds. It takes a lot of faith and trust that a seed will grow when we bury it in the ground. We obviously lose all control of that seed. We wait. We watch. We hope.
If that is true with seeds, then think about any of the times you’ve spent putting a body or a person’s ashes into the ground. You cover their remains with dirt. You’ve lost all control to help the person. You wait. You watch. You hope.
That’s why God’s Word is most precious to us. That’s why these past few days we’ve examined these seeds of truth the Lord reveals to us about the resurrection of the dead. These illustrations that Paul shares through inspiration of the Holy Spirit gives us hope, reason to watch, joy in waiting, and confidence in Christ’s control over life, death, and life— just like a seed.
Jesus gives us these illustrations about our frail, sinful, bodies of corruption and decay to remind us that He is the author of death and life. He speaks powerfully to you increase your confidence in Him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24). Trust in the resurrection of Christ MORE than you trust in a seed sprouting up from the ground. Trust in your Lord, who will take the body that has been sown into the ground, and raise it to life! |
