Psalm 147:1 It is good to sing hymns to our God because He is delightful, and praise is beautiful.
The New Song: Who Sings Rightly?
The new song can actually be rightly sung only by one who has been born again through the Gospel of the forgiveness of sins. Others may repeat the same words with their mouths, but there the saying applies: “Two may do the same, and yet it is not the same.” The song must come from the heart.

The new song glorifies the grace of God which brings salvation, and His gift to us of a new spiritual life. When unbelievers sing the new song, even their singing can bring about a blessing. The apostle Paul says: “Whether their motive is false or real, they preach Christ and I’m glad of that” (Philippians 1:18).

But when Christians sing the new song, it is entirely different. They sing from personal experience. The heart and soul of a converted person are in accord with God’s will of salvation.

There exists a spiritual harmony which the singing of the new song gives voice to and glorifies.

Thus one is singing in a beautiful chorus. In God’s ears, such singing from faith-filled hearts is “beautiful,” as our text says. God is pleased with singing when it is the right kind.

Help me to sing with both heart and mouth, Lord, for without Thee I have nothing! Amen.
