Jerusalem, Israel 2023

hi, how are you?

Dear friends!
I know, I know. It's been a hot minute since you last heard from me. Remember when I used to send these every month?

I've been on a much needed sabbatical. I guess you could say it was 18 years in the making. After thousands of shows, so many cities, and a mostly transient decade, this break has been a much needed pause for me.

I am thoroughly enjoying laying low, staying out of the spotlight, and thinking about what I want next.

As I lay low, I am creating stuff for other people, spending more time with family, and doing alot of healing - with fruit that I believe with make its way into my future artistic endeavors.

the Holy Land...

During April and May I went to Israel. It was the trip of a lifetime that barely allowed me to scratch the surface of all the things I saw and experienced. This walk through living history was such a beautiful, humbling experience to see both Old and New Testament scripture with fresh perspective. Walking where Jesus walked, learning more about the complexities and dynamics at play between people and cultures gave me such reverence for those who call Israel home.

Coming back to the states was a bit of a culture shock.

I was that much more aware of how we seem to take for granted how truly blessed we are in a land where it often feels like we conjure up drama out of boredom.

I am looking foward to going back, taking more time on my next visit...and  of course eating all that amazing middle eastern food!

a story can change everything!

If you've been following me these last 18 years (i simply can't believe it's been that long), you know i love telling stories.

Some people are confused as to why i started Wearing Love in 2022.

I just really wanted to tell other people's stories. I spent so much time telling my own, but knew without a doubt that shifting focus was my next step.

Often in our culture, the best story gets the most attention...even if it's not true. And usually the more contentious it is, the more attention it garners.

But a true, compelling, redemptive story can shift so much more than someone's attention - it can shift atmospheres, spur on generative ideas, heal relationships.

A story shoots straight for the heart - something no argument or debate will ever do.

And this is what Wearing Love is all about.

Thank you for reading this update.
I miss you all but look forward to the day when i will be ready to get back out there and see you in person!
with love,
Joy
